Back in the early 90s, my roommate and I used to reserve Sunday nights for lounging around our apartment and watching Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. The modern-day superhero series was witty, fun, and featured a handsome new actor, Dean Cain.
What you might not know is that Cain is Hapa, of French Canadian, Irish, Welsh and Japanese heritage. And another interesting tidbit, Cain played on the Santa Monica High School baseball team in the early 80s with Charlie Sheen. After graduating from Princeton University, he signed on the NFL with the Buffalo Bills briefly, but was soon sidelined with a knee injury.
So it must have been fun for him to take on the role of minor league baseball coach Arthur “Murph” Murphy in the TV movie A Mile in His Shoes, which originally premiered on the Gospel Music Network. In the film, which is now distributed on DVD by Vivendi Entertainment, Murph spots a farm boy, Mickey (Luke Schroeder — yes, son of Ricky “Silver Spoons” Schroeder), with an incredible pitching arm. Mickey also has Aspberger’s Syndrome, which causes some complications when he moves off the farm to join the River Rats baseball team. Based on a true story, A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie, with some Christian themes, celebrating forgiveness, determination and friendship. It’s rated PG for mild thematic elements, but I watched it with my sons in anticipation of the upcoming Little League season.
Vivendi Entertainment provided me with a copy of A Mile in His Shoes for review, but the opinions expressed are simply my own.

I like it when there are Asians representing in the mainstream entertainment industry. A lot of people don’t know that he’s half Asian. Nice to see him back in the spotlight!

Thanks for this review! I didn’t know that Cain is hapa. I hope to check out this movie sometime–I love baseball movies and this one sounds like a good family flick.

I always suspected he might be Hapa! I didn’t know about his impressive background. How is it possible that someone THAT good looking could also be smart enough to attend Princeton AND athletic enough to play in the NFL AND talented enough to become a major star?! Doesn’t seem fair!

I know, crazy… isn’t it? Apparently he is filming a new comedy movie too.
