The stars have aligned and the Super Bowl will be played on Lunar New Year’s eve, making a great opportunity for some creative Asian themed game day snacks.
There are some easy ways to add multicultural flair to your spread, even at the last minute!
Lunar New Year Super Bowl Snack Ideas
You’re going to have chips, so think about replacing your regular munchies with one of Calbee’s potato chips with an Asian twist, including flavors such as seaweed and salt, hot & spicy, and honey butter (trust me, this Korean phenomenon is the Next Big Thing). If you’re hardcore, serve up some of Calbee’s traditional shrimp chips or my kids’ favorite — snap pea crisps. I recently received some samples from Calbee and discovered some new flavors, including yuzu and pepper shrimp chips and those honey butter chips. My boys gobbled up the hot garlic shrimp chips.
And what’s a Super Bowl party without a pot of chili? I developed this recipe for a Chinese-inspired chili spiked with finer and hot bean paste… it reminds me of one of my favorite dishes: ma po tofu.
You need to have some oranges for the new year, and little mandarins or tangerines are easy-to-peel and pretty — especially if you can find ones with some nice green leaves attached!
And if you’re thirsty, there’s a Sriracha flavored stout! Too spicy? Try my white peach iced oolong tea.
Happy Year of the Monkey and hope your favorite team wins!
