Growing Up Asian in America Contest 2014: Food

It’s time for the annual Growing Up Asian in America essay and art contest for kids in grades K-12, sponsored by the Asian Pacific Fund. And I’m especially loving the the theme for 2014… food! My third grader brought home a flyer from school, but in case you need more information or inspiration, read on!

 

2014 Growing Up Asian in America Theme: Food

Food connects us to our families, communities and identities. Food helps us learn about the diverse cultures of our friends and neighbors. Preparing and sharing meals with one another is part of daily life, and also part of many important family traditions and cultural or religious celebrations.

What role does food play in your life as an Asian or Pacific Islander growing up in America? How are you shaped by the traditions or beliefs your family, culture or community holds around food?

Prizes: Three essay and three art winners in each grade category will win $1000. Up to three Media winners will win iPad minis and other prizes plus have their videos featured online.
