Have you been watching Fresh Off the Boat as avidly as I am? My boys remind me every Tuesday afternoon that we need to watch the show. So I have some very exciting news to share…
I’ll be heading to the ABC studios in Burbank in a few days with a few other AAPI parent bloggers to meet the executive producer Melvin Mar and show runner Nantchka Khan and actor Randall Park, who plays Eddie’s dad, Louis Huang. Press junkets are always a lot of fun, but this particular trip is especially meaningful to me. As you may remember, other mom bloggers and I wrote about the lack of Asian representation at a recent blogger trip which also featured Fresh Off the Boat. I’m happy to report that Disney and ABC are listening and interested in building relationships with the Asian American and Pacific Islander community, and I’m really hopeful that we are on the cusp of something big — both for the studios and for Asians in entertainment, in general.
I’ve been watching all of the episodes and have been following Eddie Huang’s blog and Twitter for years, and read his book Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir as soon as it was released. So I have a few questions in mind that I’m interested in finding out more about.
What about you? Is there something you’d like me to ask Randall Park or the producers? Leave a comment below… and I’ll try to ask!
