Pixar is focusing on the Hawaiian Islands this summer, with an animated short called Lava, in which the volcanic islands come alive in a musical love story that takes place over millions of years.
At a press conference at the Pixar studios, producer Andrea Warren and director James Ford Murphy explained that the idea for Lava was inspired by the Elvis satellite concerts from Hawaii. They travelled to the islands for the Na Hoku Hano Hano awards to find traditional Hawaiian singers.
Featuring traditional Hawaiian singers Kuana Torres Kahele as the volcano Uku, and Napua Greig as the female volcano, Lele,
Pixar’s animated short Lava will play in theaters before Inside Out, which opens June 19. Check out the trailer…

I love the fact the singers are traditional Hawaiian signers! Cool concept for the story/musical!
